Why does the focal point matter in cone beam CT scanning?
Dra. Camila Porto Capel · 1 min de leitura
The focal spot is the area on the anode target of the X-ray tube where electrons interact with the target material to produce X-rays. The size of this region directly influences image geometry and the sharpness of the reconstructed CBCT image.
The larger the focal spot, the greater the geometric unsharpness, or penumbra, around projected anatomical structures. This effect increases edge blurring, reduces image sharpness, and may compromise the visualization of fine anatomical details.
