Not all pain that the patient locates in a tooth originates from that tooth. Recognizing this difference can avoid irreversible procedures and completely change the way the case is handled.
Odontogenic pain is extremely common in clinical practice and, most of the time, is actually related to dental or periodontal structures. The problem appears when the perceived location of the pain and its true origin do not coincide.
