One of the most common challenges is loss of tracking, which occurs when the scanner loses its spatial reference while moving across an area that has already been captured. To reduce the risk of tracking errors, the operator should follow the manufacturer’s recommended scanning sequence. Starting from the occlusal surface is often advantageous because it provides a greater number of recognizable anatomical landmarks. During scanning, the clinician should also continuously monitor the screen to confirm the scanner’s position and the quality of the acquisition in real time.
