Dental chair positioning is an important part of the immediate management of clinical events such as sudden drops in blood pressure and episodes of presyncope, when the patient experiences dizziness, weakness, or the sensation of impending fainting. The primary goal is to improve venous return and support adequate blood flow to the brain.
In these situations, the patient is generally placed in a supine position with the legs elevated. Many dental chairs include programmable positions that allow the clinician to quickly recline the patient and raise the lower extremities.
